In a video posted to her popular social media channels, Chantel mixed three cups of hot water, 1/4 cup of white vinegar and a teaspoon of dish soapt.

She added two more optional ingredients, 1/4 cup of rubbing alcohol and essential oil.

The mum said the rubbing alcohol helps ‘floors dry faster and makes them streak-free but it’s not suitable for all floor types. It’s great for tiles and hybrid laminate floors’.

She said it also removes hidden grime while the essential oil makes the whole house smell good.

Mama Mila’s simple floor cleaning solution

Mix together:

  • 3 cups boiling water
  • 1/4 cup white vinegar
  • 1tsp dish soap
  • 1/4 cup rubbing alcohol
  • A few drops of essential oil

‘Use discretion if you have pets or small children,’ she added.

‘Note: every floor is different, so make sure to check if this is suitable for your flooring. Always patch test.’

Chantel’s video has been viewed more than 1.9million times across Instagram and TikTok and drew in hundreds of thankful comments.

‘Trying this!’ one woman replied and another said: ‘I have just used this wee hack, thank you’.

‘Dishwashing liquid and vinegar is such a good combo with hot water,’ a third agreed.

‘Also mop with the grain, not across,’ someone added.

‘Using natural products are always 100 times better than using chemicals, well done,’ another said.

Others warned against using hot water and vinegar on hard wood and natural timber flooring.

‘Hot water is not good for wood floors. It expands and contracts making it warp more easily,’ one viewer wrote.

‘If those floors are natural timber, you most definitely should not be using vinegar or anything acidic to clean them,’ a second agreed.

‘Natural timber floors need to be cleaned with a pH neutral floor cleaner. Otherwise the floors become dry and porous.’
